15 people died after a boat overturned in Adamawa
At least 15 people died after a boat overturned in Adamawa state in the northeast of Nigeria.
The incident happened on Friday evening when the boat - carrying 23 passengers including farmers, traders and children - left Rugange village for Yola town on Njuwa River.
Reports quoted an official of the Red Cross as saying that four bodies were found at the scene of the incident, while the rescue operation continued.
He said the strong wind forced water into the boat, which immediately capsized with the passengers on board.
He called on the state authorities to provide the people of Rugange village - who face the problem of floods every year - a mechanical water pump.
The secretary of the ADSEMA State Emergency Relief Agency, Muhammad Amin Sulaiman, said seven people were rescued while the search for seven is still ongoing.
