 A terrorist attack killed 64 soldiers and boat passengers in Mali


Mali's military said that some suspected jihadists attacked a military base and a passenger boat in the Niger River in the north of the country on Thursday, killing at least 64 people.


The two separate attacks were carried out on a boat in Timbuktu on the Niger River and a military base in Bamba in the northern part of Gao.


Initial results confirmed the death of 49 boat passengers and 15 soldiers.


The announcement of the interim military government said that the terrorists attacked the passenger ship of the Comanav company at about 11:00 am on Thursday in the Gourma-Rharous area.


In a separate announcement, the Comanav company said that its ship was attacked with at least three rockets while it was sailing between the cities on the banks of the Niger River.

Already the group that claims jihad in the north of the country, which is related to Al-Qaeda, has taken responsibility for the attack.


The group that earlier announced to cut off all roads leading to the city of Timbuktu in northern Mali.
