'The 2024 Hajj cost may reach five million naira'
The Nigerian Pilgrims Commission has advised those intending to perform the Hajj for the coming year 2024, to save four and a half million naira as a privilege deposit, before the actual Hajj fee for the year will be released.
The agency said that this happened as a result of the increase in the price of the dollar, which is used to estimate all the things that men need.
The commissioner for finance and planning of the agency, Alhaji Nura Hassan Yakasai, told the BBC that the decision is coming after they considered the rise in the price of the dollar.
He said that this is the reason why the commission decided to keep 4.5 million naira as a privilege, "if there is a surplus, it will not be too much".
He added that "98 percent of the money needed to pay for Hajj is done in dollars" and that's why they took the decision to advise men to pay this money as a privilege.
He said that the reason why the commission made this decision is that the burden should not be too much for the men during the payment of the Hajj.
